Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship
Web site: www.iie.org/programs/gilman/index.html
Named after retired Congressman Benjamin A. Gilman from New York, the program’s goal is to diversify the kinds of students who study abroad and the countries and regions where they go. Specifically, the Gilman program offers scholarships for students who have been traditionally underrepresented in education abroad. Award recipients are chosen by a competitive selection process and must use the award to defray the eligible costs of their chosen study abroad program, including tuition, fees, books and airfare. Award recipients receive up to $5,000 to study in one country from four weeks to one academic year. The Gilman Scholarship is open to all U.S. citizen undergraduates in good academic standing who are receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time of application.
